The exact design of the maple leaf in the centre of the flag had yet to be completed.  Jacques Saint-Cyr, a talented designer in the Canadian Government Exhibition Centre, was assigned the task.  Initially he proposed a 13-point maple leaf and then, when that proved unacceptable, he devised the 11-point maple leaf that was accepted for the proposed Canadian flag.
